Si intitola Classic il secondo disco della Playtoy Orchestra, la band sannita che dal 2002 suona strumenti giocattolo. Dopo aver girato il mondo con il proprio repertorio di musica lounge, ora il gruppo di Vitulano (Benevento) – esibitosi anche al Comicon di Napoli con un breve show – porta nei teatri un nuovo album e un modo divertente di far conoscere la musica classica che, come promette il direttore e fondatore Fabrizio Cusani, «aiuterà i bambini da 2 a 120 anni ad avvicinarsi a un mondo troppo spesso considerato lontano e difficile, ma che può essere alla portata di tutti, proprio come un giocattolo». "Strumenti" allegri dai suoni particolari per un'offerta musicale a 360 gradi: Rossini e Morricone, Beethoven in salsa samba, Johann Strauss e Mozart, il tema di Pinocchio e Il Padrino di Nino Rota, Brahms intrecciato al Barbiere di Siviglia e Giuseppe Verdi, Chajkovskij con la colonna sonora di Pulp Fiction, «per ricordarci», aggiunge Fabrizio, «che in molte lingue "suonare" e "giocare" si traducono con lo stesso verbo».
Basti dire che la band suona strumenti Bontempi: una minuscola batteria di plastica, un pianoforte giocattolo privo di polifonia (ossia che permette di suonare un solo tasto alla volta, massimo due), una fisarmonica di cartone, organetti che modificano l'altezza dei suoni al variare della carica delle batterie, ma soprattutto una serie di veri e propri giocattoli sonori, come un palloncino volante, i maialini grugnanti in offerta agli autogrill o le rotelle delle bancarelle. Qualsiasi pupazzo con fischietto o modulo a batteria che produca suoni e che abbia stuzzicato la curiosità della band trova un impiego ingegnoso nel disco. La Playtoy Orchestra ha viaggiato con il suo arsenale di giocattoli dal Portogallo alla Tunisia, dalla Colombia alla Corea del Sud, dal Lussemburgo all'Albania, dalla Francia alla Polonia, dalla Svizzera alla Bulgaria. La band ha duettato dal vivo in Rai con il Piccolo Coro dell'Antoniano e con l'Orchestra Rai, partecipando inoltre a numerose altre trasmissioni televisive e radiofoniche. Oltre a Cusani, fanno parte del gruppo Jacopo Cerulo, Gianpasquale Cusano, Roberto Polcino, Giorgio Stefanelli, Antonio Maria Boscaino, Massimiliano Maresta, Fabiano Fasoli e Marco Pietrantonio.
«Con l'esperienza della Playtoy – dichiara Fabrizio Cusani – si scrive un nuovo capitolo nel rapporto tra musica e giocattolo: per la prima volta suonano insieme 20 giocattoli diversi, con un'attenzione tesa a creare una musica piacevole e fruibile. La soddisfazione più grande per noi è che il pubblico dei nostri spettacoli, superata la sorpresa iniziale (scaturita anche dal vedere un batterista alto un metro e novanta suonare una batteria di plastica di 30 centimetri, insieme ad altri musicisti adulti che suonano pupazzi di gomma o macchinine rumorose), si dica entusiasta della qualità degli arrangiamenti e dell'originalità delle sonorità. Spesso, poi, non ci si rende conto che certe scelte musicali e certi arrangiamenti originali sono dettati proprio dai limiti dei nostri "strumenti"».
